Bunbury to host the 2018 Australian Beach Games

By Kevin Kelly

If there's one thing Australia is known for across the world, it's the quality and beauty of our country's countless beaches. In fact, heading to the beach is a quintessential part of the Australian experience, with sun, surf and sand always making for a grand day out. That's why it's so exciting that Bunbury's revamped Koombana Bay has been selected as one of the six host locations for the 2018 Australian Beach Games.

The 2018 Australian Beach Games

With events held in each state, the Games celebrate everything that makes a day at the beach so fantastic, with a focus on the sports that are most at home near the waves as well as some more unique contents such as beach table tennis and AFL. A few of the highlights that will be on offer in Bunbury include:

  • Beach soccer
  • Volleyball
  • Frisbee
  • Triathlon
  • Aquathlon

There are expected to be more than 8,000 participants taking part in 2018, along with 60,000 spectators and live performances from leading Aussie artists. The Games will take place across five states throughout the year, with Bunbury's events being held over the extended weekend of 8-11 February.

A boost for Bunbury

Bunbury will be hosting the Australian Beach Games in WA for the next three years, and the events and entertainment will provide a fantastic opportunity to show off the very best of what the city has to offer. As Deputy Mayor Jaysen Miguel explained to The West Australian:

"It is going to be a fantastic opportunity to showcase what we have. For those not competing there is going to be food trucks and live music. It is going to have a great atmosphere."

At the heart of the Australian Beach Games in Bunbury is the Koombana Bay redevelopment, which boasts a brand new amphitheatre that will act as the event's central hub. In addition, better car and pedestrian access, new amenities, extra parking and a gorgeous promenade with landscaped areas overlooking the beach all mean that Koombana Bay will really get to show guests a great time in Bunbury.

Projects like the Koombana Bay redevelopment are the future of Bunbury, and make the city a better place to live for locals, as well as an enticing destination for visitors. With this shift towards a newer, better Bunbury already awarded with the hosting of the Australian Beach Games, there's never been a better time to invest in the local property market.
