The Koombana Bay rail bridge will soon be reopening after it was closed in August last year amid safety concerns.
If you live in Bunbury rentals, you'll no doubt have used the bridge at some point or other, as it acts as the main pedestrian link between Bunbury and Koombana Bay.
Members of the public originally called for the bridge to be closed as they were worried about its safety and an assessment shows they were right to air their concerns.
Significant damage was discovered, which needed to be repaired before the bridge could be reopened to the public.
Extensive work has been carried out at the site, which has included replacing lighting and painting handrails, as well as changing bolts and providing rust treatment where necessary.
A community group was formed to oversee the repairs and ensure everything was being done to make the bridge fit for purpose once again.
The Footbridge Working Group is made up of representatives from the local community, as well as business people and government agency representatives, among others.
The reopening of the bridge has now been scheduled for August, providing all the work is completed to schedule.
