Proposed Plans For Ocean Drive Development Go Ahead

By Kevin Kelly

The Back Beach tourism precinct reached an important milestone earlier this week (February 18), with the Bunbury Council giving its approval for Scheme Amendment 66 to commence. The amendments seek to rezone five lots on Ocean Drive located between basketball and tennis courts opposite the Surf Lifesaving Club and the Welcome Inn.

Two draft structure plans have been created to help shape the overall developments across the precinct, with plans to create public open spaces, as well as commercial and entertainment areas. Furthermore, hotel, tourist and permanent accommodation requirements will also be created, all working towards establishing the vision seen in the Back Beach Tourism Precinct Plan.

These developments could be great for those who own real estate in Bunbury, especially with the growth of economy that could occur during the development and subsequent opening of commercial properties and increased tourism in the area.

City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said these plans were created to help facilitate the development of a vibrant, diverse environment along Ocean Drive.

"It will contribute to tourism prosperity and improve the overall level of amenity and servicing for the local community," said Mr Brennan in a February 19 statement.
