Skate Park Proves a Hit with Bunbury Locals

By Kevin Kelly

A new skate park has proved popular with families living in Bunbury rentals and other properties since its official launch on December 21 last year.

The Glen Iris Skate Park has so far attracted children, youths and parents who have all come together to share the facility, noted Skateboarding Australia WA state manager Ben Browning.

The park was made possible by support from Lotterywest and the Department of Sport and Recreation and will provide a hub not only for Bunbury residents, but those from surrounding areas.

One local parent has praised the park for giving kids somewhere safe to go – and further developments are already underway  to make it even better.

Facilities such as a barbeque, drinks fountain and toilets are being put in place and are expected to be completed by the end of the financial year.

Skateboarding Australia has been lined up to host free learn to skate workshops and clinics throughout the year. The next one is due to be held on January 16 at 10 a.m.

Extra ranger and security patrols are being carried out at the skate park, while a User Reference Group has been established to plan future events and communicate about any issues that may arise.
