Trekking Bunbury: The best walks in WA

By Kevin Kelly

When you buy real estate in Bunbury, you're surrounding yourself with some of the best walking and trekking sites in Western Australia. So stock up on hiking gear in one of Bunbury's many outdoor stores and head on out to the wilderness to explore these amazing walking trails.

The Bibbulman Track

Did you know Western Australia is home to one of the world's greatest long-distance tracks? Beginning in Kalamunda in the Perth Hills and stretching 1,000 km to Albany, the Bibbulman Track will take you through a huge variety of landscapes. From secluded beaches and valleys veiled in mist, to beautiful farmland and forests featuring some of Australia's oldest trees, the Bibbluman Track has scenery to suit everyone.

It's easy to do day walks and the odd casual stroll through sections of the track. Alternatively, the whole walk takes around eight weeks to complete, so if you want the adventure of a lifetime, look no further than the Bibbulman Track.

The Southern Forests

Are you a fan of delicious, organic ingredients and fresh produce? Well you might want to visit the Southern Forests, also known as Western Australia's "gourmet food bowl." Chestnuts, cherries, ginseng, green tea, and the delightfully decadent black truffle are just some of the foodie treats you'll find on a trip down there.

Prone to over-indulgence? Luckily, you won't even realise you're walking the calories off as you venture through the Southern Forest's magical scenery. This includes white sand beaches, karri, marri and tingle forests featuring trees over 300 years old, and a variety of coastal scenery.

The Southern Forests begin just outside Manjimup, only an hour and a half's drive from Bunbury.

Blackwood River Valley

The Blackwood River Valley begins in Balingup, less than an hour in the car from Bunbury. From here you can head further into the Valley until you reach the Blackwood River itself. The area is great any time of year, but in springtime it's particularly beautiful, as the wildflowers are in full bloom.

If you're into stargazing, the Blackwood River Valley also offers one of the best spots around to broaden your astronomical horizons, with some of the darkest (and clearest skies) around.

No matter how beautiful the scenery is, it's always nice to come home and put the kettle on. Bunbury offers a huge range of great real estate for you to unwind in after a great trek.
