2 things no one thinks of after buying a home

By Kevin Kelly

So you're about to buy some real estate in Bunbury East, Eaton or another nearby area. You're excited, nervous and anxious at the same time, but really, you just can't wait to sign your name on that contract of sale and have a property to call your own.

That's all well and good, but just be aware that's not the end of the journey. There are still a few things that need to be taken care of now that property is yours.

Moving day

It's easy to forget that the actual move itself can be a project on its own, and can be quite the expense, too. Hiring a truck and movers can add up to being hundreds of dollars depending on how much you're shifting, and getting everything packed up and organised is an effort that can take a while. Be sure to get what you need for the move far enough in advance so you don't have to worry about it, and remember it'll take you anywhere between a day to a week to be fully settled – maybe even longer.

Buying furniture and other items

If before this you were simply living in a Bunbury rental, then chances are most of the furniture, whiteware, appliances and so on are part of that property. That means your new place is going to be looking awfully barren when you move, and you may find yourself forking out some more money to populate it with the essentials. Make sure you have the really important stuff bought beforehand – a fridge or microwave, for instance, or cutlery and plates. You don't want to move and find you suddenly have nothing to eat on, or nowhere to sit.
