Beating the heat in Bunbury this summer

By Kevin Kelly

We're at that point in summer where we've gotten used to the sun – not to say that we've had enough, but it's starting to get a little uncomfortable. If you or a close family friend has a pool, you're lucky, you and the kids can stay cool splashing around all day. But if you aren't so lucky, do you have another way to beat the heat?

Fortunately, the Bunbury community has plenty of places to go cool off if you aren't lucky enough to have a backyard pool yourself! Let's explore your options before things get any hotter.

Aquatic facilities

There is certainly no shortage of pools you can hop to in this community. Ripe with recreation centres, schools, hotels – you name it, Bunbury has it! But, with so many people coming and going, some families are wary about the cleanliness of facilities. In Bunbury, you can be sure that the city keeps a close eye on the cleanliness of each pool. They receive routine sampling and inspections so you can feel safe, and cool, about bringing your kids to the community waters.

Bunbury beaches

Of course, living in Bunbury you're always near a beach! Head to Koombana Bay, the Indian Ocean or the Leschenault Inlet for different water activities. Koombana Bay is perfect if you and the family are looking for calmer waters to splash around or snorkel in. Of course, if you want to surf or boogie board, the Indian Ocean will be more your speed whereas the Leschenault Inlet is great for a long day of fishing. Now that's some good old fashioned family fun!

Swim with the dolphins

Want a unique way to cool off? Why not swim with the dolphins at the Discovery Centre? It's as educational as it is entertaining as you can spend the day learning about these animas, as well as the sea creatures they share the waters with. The centre offers quite a few different activities you can partake in as well. Head out into the bay on the Dolphin Eco Cruise or stay on land and just enjoy the beach access and playground. Of course, the main attraction here is to actually swim with the creatures, so be sure to check out the Swim on the Wild Side Tour!
