Knowing the roads are safe in your local area can be a real bonus when you're making a decision to move somewhere, so houses to rent in Bunbury could soon gain further popularity.
It has been announced that a joint a partnership between the City of Bunbury RoadWise committee and Shire of Dardanup RoadWise committee has been forged to improve safety.
The focus of the campaign is encouraging drivers to switch off their mobile phones before they get behind the wheel, as these devices are often a cause for distraction.
"Drivers who use their mobile while driving are four times more likely to be involved in a motor vehicle accident causing serious injury," said Bunbury RoadWise Committee chairwoman and Bunbury City councillor Betty McCleary.
Text messages are especially dangerous, as they require drivers to take their eyes away from the road, as well as the cognitive processes involved in reading and writing them.
The campaign officially began on 26 September, so if you're living in the area ensure you take part and make a real difference to safety in your area.
Figures show almost a third of road crash fatalities and serious injuries in Western Australia were the result of driver distraction between 2005 and 2007.
