Bunbury has welcomed its first ever floating swimming pontoon, which is to be found at the boating prohibited area at Koombana Bay Beach.
The facility is expected to be a hit with local residents, as those living in houses to rent in Bunbury make the most of the open waters.
Features of the pontoon include non-slip, UV resistant decking for safety purposes, as well as two ladders. It has been designed to be low-maintenance so people can enjoy the beach when the weather permits.
The pontoon will be removed and put into storage during the winter to avoid any safety incidents arising, before being reinstalled once conditions start to improve again.
The city of Bunbury's mayor Gary Brennan explained how much of a difference it would make to local communities.
"This pontoon will benefit swimmers of all ages over the summer months," he commented.
"We have an enviable beach location here in Bunbury and this will add to the diversity of our beach activities for residents and visitors."
Anyone using the pontoon is advised to consider their own safety, as well as those around them to ensure the facility can be used by people of all ages and swimming abilities.
