Greater Bunbury is already a sizeable community, with the Western Australian government estimating around 67,090 people renting or owning real estate in Bunbury. But even the best kept secret doesn't stay uncovered for long, and Bunbury is consequently also a rapidly growing area, which has just received some key funding to help it get even bigger.
Western Australia's regional development minister Terry Redman announced recently that the next phase of the Regional Centres Development Plan is set to begin, and will feature Bunbury. As part of this step, Greater Bunbury will be one of four areas to share in $7.5million of funding for their future business, social and economic development.
"Regional centres are at the heart of innovation and prosperity in the regions and I am pleased the state government is able to support a better quality of life in regional WA," said Mr Redman in a 7 July statement.
Gary Brennan, mayor of Bunbury, was equally positive about the news and what it would mean for an expanding local area.
"Greater Bunbury is experiencing continued growth and I am pleased the state government is able to support a strong and sustainable future for our region," he said.
The initiative is aimed at helping Bunbury better steer its economic growth and boost job creation and investment. For holders of real estate in Australind, Eaton and other areas, it could well lead to some great capital growth; for those still to dive in, it could make living in a home in the area even more tempting.
