Community programmes given funding boost

By Kevin Kelly

Bunbury is well known for its strong sense of community spirit, which could be about to improve further thanks to council funding.

The City of Bunbury is welcoming grant applications from community groups, who could be eligible for up to $2,500.

"I encourage community groups or individuals with a project in mind to apply for funding," said Bunbury mayor Gary Brennan.

Applications need to be made by 30 January 2015 and any successful project must be finished by 30 June.

Earlier this year, the Western Australian government's Heritage Grants programme benefited several projects in the local area, including the Cronshaws building.

The construction received a grant of $100,000 in October and was one of just four to have received the maximum funding available through the scheme.

A total of 20 regional buildings were successful, with the other Bunbury location being on Turner Street.
