Population Growth to be Supported by Western Australian Planning Department

By Kevin Kelly

Planning for the future of Bunbury is in even safer hands following a recent announcement from the Western Australia government.

A new Director General for the Department of Planning, Gail McGowan has been appointed to assist with the task of strategic land use planning for the state.

"Ms McGowan is currently the deputy director general at the Department of State development and has led some of the state's most significant land assembly and development projects," said Planning Minister John Day in a April 1 statement.

"The importance of planning has never been greater as Western Australia transforms to accommodate a growing population," said Mr Day.

Regional areas such as Bunbury are seeing rapid population growth and the demand for infrastructure, transport and land is increasing.

This appointment shows a dedication to ensuring that plans are in place to combat growing pressure on natural and artificial resources.

Bunbury City Council also has strategies in place to make sure that real estate in Bunbury continues to be desirable and available.

The City Vision Strategy and various taskforces such as the Sustainable and Integrated Land Use Planning Team (SaILUP), all work to ensure that Bunbury grows in a sustainable and manageable manner.
