The Bunbury Show: Why Bunbury’s got heaps of community spirit

ByKevin Kelly

When you buy real estate in Bunbury, you'll be moving into a place with heaps of community spirit. Nothing sums this up better than the annual Bunbury Show, which is due to be held across April 8 and 9.

Bunbury Show Us Your Talent

One of the main events this year will be the 'Bunbury Show Us Your Talent' section, which takes place on April 8 between 1.30 and 3.30pm and will demonstrate the wealth of talent we have here in Bunbury.

First prize is a whopping $500, and the judges include Louise and Ian Kirk, owners of the Rock N' Roll High music school, who will be keen to see some of the town's younger residents apply. The other judges are Kelsie Miller, founder of Good Nights music events, and Sharon Custers, from the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre. With second and third place also cash prizes ($200 and $100 respectively), this is set to be a hotly contested event.

Other events

The Show Us Your Talent section is just one of the exciting acts and displays happening this year. A number of horse events are also on the programme, including show jumping, dressage, a breed show and mounted games.

Other events will include:

  • Bunbury Art Show – budding artists have been invited to submit works with a "rural theme" to the Bunbury Art Show, the winner of which will go on to compete in the Perth Royal Show Country Artists Award. They will also receive a $150 prize (second place will receive $75 and be kept as a reserve piece for the Perth competition).
  • Mad About Motoring – the South West Veteran Car Club is hosting this event, which starts with a barbecue breakfast at Koobana Bay Kiosk at 7am. Entrants will then form a cavalcade through central Bunbury before arriving at the show at around 9.30am.
  • Dog agility demos – on April 8 at 10am and 3pm, dog agility demos will be taking place, run by agility and dog obedience trainers, K9 Connections.
  • Good Nights and fireworks – Dunsborough local Brayden Sibbald is one of the acts playing at the Good Nights music event, which takes place between 5 and 9pm on April 8. There will be five acts in total, with a short interval half way through for fireworks.

The Bunbury Show is just one of the many events held in the town every year. If you want to make Bunbury your home, so you too can get involved with the town's community spirit, contact one of our team
