Residents of Bunbury may soon find themselves sending their children to be taught by one of Western Australia's finest teachers.
According to a recent report from the Bunbury Mail, Western Australia's state government announced its finalists for the Western Australia teacher of the year awards, with Bunbury's own Athena Hawkins being named.
Ms Hawkins is a teacher at Newton Moore Senior High School and one of four finalists for the WA Premier's Secondary Teacher of the Year award.
"It's fantastic to see so many students and parents celebrating what's great about their schools by encouraging nominations for this year's awards," said Education Minister Peter Collier.
According to the state government's official website, there are 33 finalists in total across eight categories.
The winners will be announced at a special breakfast on December 2, with each winner taking home a cash prize of up to $25,000. A portion of each prize must be spent on professional learning which will benefit the teacher, their school and their students.
With a Bunbury teacher being lauded as among the best in the state, it's no wonder that real estate in Bunbury is a hot commodity for Australians seeking a great community to live in.
